Identification process in South Carolina

The Health Department of South Carolina requires applicants, once they have completed and signed the application form, to prove their identity by including a photocopy of their ID.

Acceptable document of identification are:

Provide one (1) of the following identification documents:

  • Military Identification Card
  • Private Company Employment Identification card
  • Us/Foreign Passport
  • Permanent Resident Card (green card)
  • Concealed Handgun License

  • Legal representative

Please note: If you can provide documentation of legal interest, or if you are holding a Power of Attorney from the person on record, you are eligible to request the vital record for that person.

How Long Will Birth Certificate Delivery Take?

It will take about 2 to 4 business weeks to get your birth certificate.The state needs ample time to process the number of inquiries they receive. Delays may vary depending on the volume being processed.

It will take about 2 to 4 business weeks to get your death certificate.The state needs ample time to process the number of inquiries they receive. Delays may vary depending on the volume being processed.

The State of South Carolina accepts the following payment:

This fee will change if you order more than one copy or request rush processing.

Exception and Date Limit?

If you were born before 1915 you will need to contact the Archive department in order to access to your original records.
